How to use your pc speakers or subwoofers in your car

Many people have a decent set of pc speakers from Logitech and Creative that are no longer needed for there pc so you might want to wire them up and connect to your xbox 360, ps3 or lcd tv and you may want to install your home pc speaker systems into your car which is possible.Below is a simple and short guide on how you can turn pc speakers into car audio.

1)Find out the voltage your speakers as this is vital to get them to work correctly requires the right amount of voltage.Look at you power supply adapter that plugs into to your subwoofer or satellite speakers and note down the rating.Car battery's are rated at 12 volts and most computer speakers are rated below 12 volts so you will need a volt converter to match the voltage correctly. If you don't match the voltage, you could cause series damage to your car electrical's and cause a fire etc...

2)You need to know what you want to use your pc speakers for.Are you going to use the for mid range frequency's or high frequency's or bass?Once you know this then you ready to get wiring!

3)Most pc speakers have a 3.5mm jack that plugs into a sound card found in a computer or laptop but in this case you will need a 3.5 mm to rca connector adapter which is cheap to buy on Ebay.

4)Once you have the jack adapter, you need to buy some rca leads that are double sided and don't but cheap leads as they destroy sound quality.

5)Get access to the back of your car head unit and find the rca input and plug one side of the rca cable in both red and white colours that stand for speakers channels left and right.

6)You don't need to touch the remote turn on lead as the amp that is built in the speakers has to be turned on and off manually.

7)Connect the other end of the rca cable into the 3.5mm adapter and that's it your speakers can receive the input signal from the car cd player.Depending on how many speakers you wan't to use you might need more than one adapter.

8)Install your subwoofer in the trunk/boot or place it on the rear car seat and place your satellite speakers on each side of the car.Try different positions in different places to increase sound clarity as there is different pc speakers such as 2.1, 5.1 7.1 and 11.1 that have different staging positions.

NOTE: The only bad thing is that you have to turn off and on the speakers via the pc speakers control. You can't use the car head unit to turn up the volume and down which is a pain.

NOTE:There is no need for a external car amplifier as the pc speakers have there own amp built in.
